Yes. A wet event for Otago. Glad we missed most of it here.

State of Emergency declared in Dunedin
Civil Defence press release:
STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED – DUNEDIN WEATHER EVENT
A State of Emergency for Dunedin in response to heavy rainfall and flooding in the area.
Residents in South Dunedin, particularly in Caversham in and around the areas near Hillside Road and Surrey Street, are being advised to self-evacuate and get to higher ground if they feel unsafe. If they have friends or whānau they can stay with, they should go there first.
🌧WELFARE CENTRE: A welfare centre has been setup at the St Clair Golf Club (20 Isadore Road) for those in South Dunedin that do not have anywhere safe to go to. There is plenty of parking. Pets are welcome.
🌧SANDBAGS: Sandbags will continue to be available from South Dunedin (Ice Stadium), Mosgiel (Memorial Park/Gym carpark) and Middlemarch (Showgrounds) overnight. There is high demand in South Dunedin, so please be patient.
🌧ROAD CLOSURES: Several roads have been closed. Please keep up to date with road closures at our website.
🌧LANDSLIPS: There has been a landslip on Aramoana Rd between Careys Bay and Deborah Bay, and on the access road to Smaills Beach from Tomohawk Road. Both are blocked and unsafe to drive through.
🌧FLOODING: There is still significant flooding on Peninsula Road and around the Hoopers and Papanui Inlets, and in Caversham in South Dunedin. We expect more surface flooding in other areas that may be difficult to see, so we advise people not to travel. For those that do need to travel, such as to get to a safe location, it is important to take care and drive to the conditions.
🌧URGENT: If there is anything urgent, you can call us on 03 477 4000. If it is an emergency, call 111.
🌧The important thing is to remain calm and not panic. We will continue to provide more updates on throughout the night, so keep checking here regularly. Stay safe, stay warm, and look after yourself, friends and whānau.

Dunedin Metservice over 100mm now. Low lying South Dunedin relies on a pump system to help clear water during heavy rain.
The other area to watch is around Henley near Dunedin airport as the Taieri river comes up, this area is close to or below sea level.

Yes, that is one area I thought would be flooded with this event.spwill wrote: Fri 04/10/2024 08:29 The other area to watch is around Henley near Dunedin airport as the Taieri river comes up, this area is close to or below sea level.

Re: East Otago Heavy Rain event 3-4 October
Rain event has now been downscaled. Interesting watching the event on radar. Not showing heavy fall but mainly drizzly stuff? Maybe it would of shown more if the Canterbury radar was on line? I saw no red at all
