Saw a post online that one of the main meteor showers this year peaks in the next few nights. If you have clear weather over the next few mornings, then looking ENE in the hour or so before sunrise looks to be the best bet!
This site has great information on timing and direction/altitude to look (and you can set your location).

Semi related. I was visiting family down in the Tasman region over the Easter/Anzac period. Was staying out near Wakefield (which has a Dark Sky Park nearby at the Wai-iti Reserve), and a couple of nights the sky was amazingly clear. I managed to take this photo using just my iPhone (propped on a chair!). The streak of light is an Auckland to Chch flight passing overhead perfectly intersecting the stars of the southern cross.
