michael, they don't have a moderator over there, so go for it.
Good layer of stratocu here now. Midday sounding shows a whopping temperature inversion over us. It will be interesting to see what comes of that weak trough tomorrow. I can't see it coming to much but Met Service are predicting late showers inland.
Nice day today, 20 C at some personal stations but 18 C at the airpoirt. A few nice inland buildups of Cu have occured on the edge of this high with a low forming. Tomorrow a few more are ment to occur.
Edited: 16 minutes later
Cu is looking quite nice now. Newly attached pic.

Mostly fine here.
NE sea breeze turned SW seabreeze late afternoon . We're very privileged here, we get two different sea breezes. The SW seabreeze was the cooler.
Ummm....Where's the new convective outlook thing on the Metservice site?
I've probably missed it somewhere and am to dumb to see the obvious, or isn't it there yet? I'm guessing nothing too convective worthy to note today, is that why it's not there?
Ahh yes, there it goes! I thought it would've likely to of been on the warnings page but it wasn't there this morning. Who cares, it is now!
Look at the spicy ingrediants to chose from:
MetService uses the following criteria for severe thunderstorms in New Zealand:
* Heavy rain (from thunderstorms): Rainfall of 25 millimetres per hour, or more.
* Large hail: Hailstones 20 millimetres in diameter, or larger.
* Strong wind gusts (from thunderstorms): Gusts of 110 kilometres per hour (60 knots) or stronger.
* Damaging tornadoes: Fujita F1 (wind speeds greater than 116 kilometres per hour (63 knots)) or stronger.
I find that this month is going to be quite anticyclonic (as I made in earlier predictions....and i hope I'm wrong?) so it might be a while before we can test MetServic'es predictions and have a good ' mother of' thunderstorms to really test Steven and Ricky's Boltex lightning recorders.
Maybe next month ...or Jan or Feb or March
....even nexy year???

UNISYS long-range 9 day outlook looks relatively anticyclonic for NZ, with only a weak southerly for later in the period.
