I heard a radio announcer say this morning, "has anybody else noticed how cold this summer has been"!!!!
I think this December could well break records for a low mean temp.

Well...Taumaranui has a lot of damp cloudy weather as well, whereas while Alex's fogs often affect June and July its annual sun is way ahead of Taumaranui - Cromwell even more so. Taumaranui has the doubtful privilege of being the least sunny of N Island towns for which there are records (only 1600 odd hrs annually).

To note, Whangarei is on 26c at 1pm on a NW'er, miles ahead of anywhere else in NZ... nearby Paihia is on 19c

Storms look like they could be on the cards for upper parts of the NI this afternoon. The temps as foggy mentions are great and dewpoints are high! Upper air isn't as favourable but the high surface dewpoints etc counteract this.
The skies look to be clearing on the satellite pics up above but I'm not sure what the low cloud situation is like. Wunderground has it as being Mostly cloudy.

Yup, the persistent drizzle has cleared but remained cloudy 8/8 here in Hamilton...
Heavy showers expected tonight in the Waikato (19mm)
10mm for Auckland

Warm in Auckland this afternoon, only 21C but it's humid. Dew points are over 17C. It will be a very warm night up here with a low around 18C.

I'm also sick of this so called summer weather, so i'm off to Australia for Christmas. Leaving on the 23rd, be back 27th. I'm going to surfers so i 'm sure to get something, whether it be 40 degrees or a flash flood, i'm looking forward to it.

A couple of convective showers in Grey Lynn late afternoon.
And re the entimology question a month or so ago. I heard the first Cicada of the year today in Grey Lynn.

A heavy shower (a nice change i may add) just came over west aucks at about 6:10 but was short lived. Lightning tracker at Grey Lynn picked up 1 strike in the last half hour according to the 'current nz weather' website.
Theres a few lumpies still around lower Northland and with the N to NE flow it could bring some action either 2nite or 2moro morning.
Something better happen cos the weather has been a bit, well boring to be honest lately......!

I see the Lightning tracker has some strikes up Northland way this Evening and Met service 7pm Radar shows those cells.

My friend left the Gold Coast yesterday in 40C heat after a weeks holiday. I was talking to him today as he drove down from Chch, back to Dunners. I told him snow was in the forecast.
Though he did see the extremes there also... as he sat at the Gabba in pouring rain

those cells around wellsford/warkworth way have developed considerably in thr last couple of hours. Sat image suggests a quite well defined edge in a NW-SE direction.......hopefully heading this way.

there are lots of bearclonic leaf type cloud mass developing over and to the east of the upper NI now.....spiriling around the tasman low....
we might get some decent rain.....which we need!
