Tornado Touchdown - Kildare / Meath Border, Ireland

Unread post by KiwiWeather »

"Development of a funnel cloud, brief touchdown and dissipation of a tornado in Ireland. Tornadoes are very rare in Ireland. To manage to film one is rare but to have video of the complete life cycle of one is probably a first. Many parts of the video are sped up (timelapse) as the video would be very long otherwise."

Ireland has a huge amount of people with cell-phone/i-phone per head of population, so events like this can be captured on camera.
Nice to see one from there.

Interesting video! :-)

It would seem most Irish think they're rare, but according to Torro, Ireland averages about 9 reported and verified tornadoes per year. Most are waterspouts coming onshore (apparently most waterspouts do come onshore there). A higher number occur during the summer months, although the most severe are just as likely to occur in the winter.
