I just tried it and you're right it didn't work! You can go into each board and click mark topics read, that still works, though it's a little less convenientWeather Watcher wrote:I have been having trouble with the "mark forums read" button over the last few days. It doesn't seem to work. Is anyone else having this problem?

Re: Forum Talk
Yes! I even notice the speed difference up here in Darwin where latency to Auckland is still 105ms. It's like surfing the site back in NZ for me! Very fast and responsive.
Curious what your latency is ricky to the new site is? The host has moved from central AK to the North Shore with RimuHosting in the Hosting Direct datacentre.

Re: Forum Talk
Is the forum residing on a VPS now?
If its on Rimu Hosting that would be expensive, I should have offered the forum to sit on my managed VPS in Christchurch.

Thanks Tim. Yep it was something I forgot to do. Still got to do a few pieces of patchwork in some areas.

Automatic log-on (when you tick the "log me on automatically...") hasn't been working lately.

Also some issues (that were existing before the site move): Marking the forum read doesn't work.
The redirection to the previous page you were before logging in doesn't work (it just puts you back to forum home).

Re: Forum Talk
OK thanks. I thought I fixed the redirection issue. Whenever I used to log into the ACP it would redirect to the index page. Then I'd have to login again and it would be okay. (Since fixed) I'll look at this one.
To do list by order of importance. (Will cross out when done...)
To do list by order of importance. (Will cross out when done...)
- 1. Unable to read virtually all files from 2008 due to permissions issue.
2. 'Mark forums read' function.
3. Redirection after log in issue
4. Formatting of text didn't transfer across properly.

Re: Forum Talk
I have a problem with a certain moderator whom I consider is far too much of a topic nazi. Even when adding a comment to try to be on topic in a sense you still get nailed, no fun allowed here
As for PM'ing him, no way, I've nothing nice to say to him, especially if that's his stance.
I'll say it publicly cause I'll bet I'm not the only one thinking it and it ain't the first time he's moved one of my comments I consider on topic.

Re: Forum Talk
Good Grief!
I never said your post was off-topic. However, the discussion about Cairns weather was drifting off-topic and did warrant its own thread. Someone had to do it. Yes, in hindsight, perhaps the first 2 posts could have remained in the Frost thread, but with indirect refs to those in the new thread, it seemed to flow better with those included. Unfortunately we can't spilt individual posts. Bit late now anyway as the first post has already been commented on.
As for other time I moved one of your posts (at least a year or so ago?), yes it was an honest mistake, to which I apologised soon after receiving your PM and promptly rectified. I've never received PM since, so I'm not sure why you seem determined not to let me forget it and seem to have remained hostile ever since.
I'm not saying mods always get it right but, If anyone has a problem with a mod's decision, they should either PM that mod or admin, as often there can be a lot more to that decision than meets the eye.
And if anyone else thinks that trying to keep threads in some sort of order is being a 'topic nazi', then I'll happily resign. Seems you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Re: Forum Talk
Hi all,
Remember what we do is in the best interests of the forum/community, we want to keep this place clean, tidy and organized.
This is a unpaid role we are doing, we do it because we (and most/if not all members) have a genuine interest in the weather.
As Nev said, we are all Human, we all make mistakes from time to time, if any member has a problem please PM the Mod and/or Admin and things can get sorted out.
I have noticed that people are being a little apprehensive about making up new Weather event threads recently, Im not sure exactly why that is. Rest assured you will not be told off if you make up a new thread relating to a new Weather event, we'd actually love it if people could make them up automatically as that means we don't need to sift though a "General Weather" thread and split it up later on.
We all have a common interest here, "Weather"!. Focus on that rather than the small stuff
