Oh I WISH I was out east...

Temperature max. for Christchurch tomorrow will be as low as 7c with freezing windchills. Gale southwesterlies set to ease slowly. That's a REAL gale Micheal and it's actually COLD. :P
Wellington will only reach 9c...
Auckland's freezing level should drop from 2350m in the morning and then 1250m at night

Some BIG flashes off towards the east coast, Oamaru way tonight.

The weather has turned...windy (now gone south) and damp. The temp has started to drop a wee bit also.

All this happened because the last of the components for the Benmore Peak station were delivered today, of course.

I won't be able to do anything with it until the weather clears.

BAH!

Winds will reach near-gale force at times in AK

Who knows, maybe the Chch gale tomorrow will actually just be strong winds instead of gale?

Cold here... 2.6C currently, strong winds but very clear skies. The only cloud that is passing has been very light at present and the moon is still visible through it.

Some rain, not much. Never saw any of the earlier lightning that was on the tracker, but my view is obstructed to the east. I'm sure more is to follow though.

And of course... i'm having FTP issues and cannot get updates to my site

Looks powerful alright!

the auckland tracker is picking up lots of them and they're strong enough it thinks they're much closer
.. though it does often do that at night..

Hope Aaron is out there somewhere with the camera! :)

11pm Satellite photo shows a great looking crop of high topped shower cloud down there and with plenty of strikes on the lightning tracker hopefully there's a good lightning photo opportunity for you guys down South.

Violent thunderstorm passed over Christchurch from after 11pm
Good hail about the size of peas some a little bigger here.
Losta lightning recorded on video before and after.
You could hear the hail coming, sounded like an unloding shingle truck! coming up the drive! :D \
Still thundering away to the NE :)
Much cooler now than 'the calm before the storm"

Agree that Steven's lightning tracker is impressive. Enjoy whatever weather comes, just about forgotten what a thunderstorm and hail are ! Another warm day for us tomorrow, top revised down to 27°.

What a show :D

Headed out at 10pm when I saw the cluster of strikes south of Rakaia. The storm went right overhead just after I stopped south of Leeston and hopefully got some video through the hail and heavy rain. Following the storm back home the lightning was almost non-stop.

Wow what an interestin storm unlike you guys in CHCH I only got smaller sized hail here :( ohh well still plenty more where that came from 2mora lol :D .
I got one awsum flash on video camera and then an awsum clap of thunder that sounded like a giant ripping a big piece of card board. :)
Also captured some nice vidoes of the storm in the distance before it hit here.
My brotha said there was a few big sized hail the size of golf balls I rang him before hes a little annoyed his car has a few dents from the hail so when I gt the time I shall gt sum pics of the dents.
ohh well still more to come hopefully :D TS forecast for 2mora still but more or less the wind will be intersting I wonder if there will be another 2000 southerly storm :-k
cheers

Yes, I think it's limited by the file format they've used.

Here are a couple of video stills from a quick check through the footage. Pity about the water on the side window :(

I don't think so Jason. :(
Thunderstorms don't work this time of year but mind you we got a bit of rain when the last anticyclone passed over :-#

Just back from an early morning drive. Some good snow flurries on the tops of the hills and, nothing settling no electrical activity of course.

Currently 1.6C, still windy.

Terrible picture as "she" wouldn't get out of the car to take it. But shouldn't complain as it was great to have a keen co-pilot. I'm holding my handheld anemometer... of course 8)

Nice pic, you must be keen to get up there!

Ok North Islanders, or whoever is interested....

*Snow is almost certain to dust/fall on Waiouru Sunday night through to Monday morning. As well as Desert Rd, higher Napier-Taupo rd...

*As I said earlier, there is roughly a 40% chance of snow falling in Turangi (yes thats the town sitting by Lake Taupo at 370m asl)
Snow has fallen there before, but rather during mid-winter

*There is a lower chance of snow in Taumarunui on Sunday night only. Temp max on Sunday there: 11c, Monday: 9c and with an early frost, may it keep the snow there? 25th August 2004 snow settled. Not out of the question, the risk is there. Also Ohakune.

Please comment your views.
Following the weather can be addicting when it's this exciting and you're personally bored (it's 2.35am  )

Attatched is a GFS input to Snow-forecast.com showing snow forecast, duhh!.
It doesn't run with my forecast ;)

Lots to go over, very cool day with a big chase had. Heaps of video! :D, although after reviewing some it isn't all great but there are some great lightning shots!

03storm will possibly fill in the details tomorrow morning and I'll still be asleep. Off to bed.

Bugger the comp just closed!

Can you say Gg? Still very white/grey/ even pinky in colour. Steve has some nice shots with blue in them he took so looking foward to them. I think I'll have to adjust my white balance to get the blue ones, but I'm not sure where to put it??
