Thanks for that detailed report snoopy :)

12c and a strong bending southwesterly here, mostly sunny.
Dipping to 1c overnight.

the Far south is starting to get that warmer nor'west air now...

Thunderstorms possible again for Canterbury on tuesday night according to the MetService ;)

Some intersting stuff in the press this morning about the cold blast big picture on front of CHCH on Hereford St with small lighting in the sky and hail on the streets. :D
Yes Foggy TS are forecast but iam thinking confidense will not be a high as Saturday still keep your camera's ready NZTS members.
Cold here 9c with Cold SW winds to 35kmh and occaional light showers still falling.

Thanks Spwill. When you took those photo's of lightning over Auckland there was allready the city lights in the picture, thus (thus, lol :D ) I'm thinking the auto WB in your DSLR had something to use to adjust correctly. All lightning photo's I've taken to date have been in pitch black areas with no light except when the lightning flashes.

I'm going to use a sunlight setting or daylight next time I'm taking lightning photo's. If there's other light sources allready in frame I feel auto WB may be ok in that instance. I'm thinking that sounds correct, I'll know next time anyway!

Fine from Auckland to Rotorua, with just some scattered afternoon cloud. (though showers visible to west of Waitakares early pm) But very chilly with a fresh southerly continuing - a frost almost certain in Rotorua tonight if the wind dies down. Apparently the people I'm staying with say that it's been fine and sunny in Rotorua throughout this cold southerly outbreak - good sheltering by the mountains to the south.

I see now the lightning tracker is back up and running, shows lightning from the other night

Cool! You can see the gut's of it started at Oamaru, and it also intensified over Chch.

yeah the metservice one. hasnt been online for the last week, now up and running, surprised marlbrough got so many strikes, I guess these happened sunday!
