Metservice going all out with a snow watch for the Canterbury high country.Snow down to 600 metres with a high freezing level, seems a warm advection set up.

Perhaps Metservice should edit snow Otago warnings to include Canterbury in the title for the future

Never quite understood that, they have a snow warning for Otago in winter but not for CanterburyDean. wrote:Metservice going all out with a snow watch for the Canterbury high country.Snow down to 600 metres with a high freezing level, seems a warm advection set up.

Re: General November Weather
A very typical sheltering going on today as expected really, this is more an inland rain event possibly just under 1mm here so far.
Although going by the maps rain should increase overnight from 1am, 15-20mm possible about the coast and clearing around 2ish tomorrow afternoon.
Much more interested in next weeks weather though, potential for a few decent storm days over much of the country.

Re: General November Weather
less than 10mm in Christchurch so far and don't think much more is on the cards. Not alot of snow has fallen either looking at the webcams in the high country.

Re: General November Weather
Is it overstating it that this southerly system for Thursday for Canterbury looks to be as vicious winds-wise as the one in early September? That particular one caused a bit of damage around the property with gates buckled etc!!

Re: General November Weather
Looks like Wellington get the wind overnight Monday. Normal for them though!
Possibility of severe hail for the country with this system mid to late week given time of year and strength of dynamics+cold air.

What day do you think has the highest potential for severe thunderstorms?

Modelling showing a k index of 30 for Ashburton later today. That number is a good signal for a storm.mikestormchaser wrote:Wensday if anything for Canterburyryant1234 wrote:What day do you think has the highest potential for severe thunderstorms?

Re: General November Weather
The front coming into the west of the North Island late tomorrow looks supportive of squally thunder. Will cross Auckland very early Thursday with chance of 50knot (90km/h) squall.

Re: General November Weather
We're up to 25mm of rain since yesterday, which is a decent drop for us. Looks like we'll get a bit more over the next few days too. Lawns going bananas!
