Went gathering firewood near Mayfield today and was quite surprised of the lack of snow along the foothills after yesterday's rain event. Mt. Peel had hardly any extra snow on it.

Re: General August Weather
Fridays rain event was rather interesting as the rain didn't seem to want to move inland. I was working near Fairlie and it was dry most of the the day, doubt there would have been an much more the 0.5mm while as home near Pleasant point it was raining moderately all day with 19mm total for the event.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote: ↑Sat 18/08/2018 19:09 Went gathering firewood near Mayfield today and was quite surprised of the lack of snow along the foothills after yesterday's rain event. Only 7cm of new snow on Mt Dobson, Snow looked much thicker on the Hunter hills south of of Timaru than further north..

Re: General August Weather
Lewis pass closed due to snow and no road warning from MS, no wonder other forecast sources have sprung up in this country.

Re: General August Weather
I wouldn't be surprised considering the current weather situation over NZ at the moment.
I saw a tornado-ic form in some high cloud passing from the north to the south this afternoon, whilst chopping firewood.. I didn't take a photo of it as my f-stick is full on my camera and I coudln't be bothered, changing it.

Re: General August Weather
Video posted to Facebook appearing to be in Ohope Beach area. The presumably Waterspout looks a lot like a Tornado (it's offshore).

Re: General August Weather
Nice waterspout.
Todays set up looked good for waterspouts with dewpoint of 13-14C and surface winds from the N/NE.

Re: General August Weather
Good setup for tornadoes today. BOP and Taranaki getting it. I’ve seen structure in the clouds this arvo/evening that was indicative of rotation. So not surprised to hear of tornadoes really.
New line coming in from the west just gave us a rumble. Looks like a CG between raglan and kawhia
