Yes, from east of the city looking North.
A great photo.

Wow! That's a great pic! The ligthning frequency must have been amazing. The pic can't have been exposed for more than 15 seconds. So lightning must have been hitting hard. Thanks for the picture! ;)

It's possible that image was created from a number of pictures. I find it difficult to beleive it was from a single exposure. Heck, if they do in fact have storms like that over there, I think I want to move there :)

We are long overdue for a decent electrical storm over here... Bring it on I say ;)

It could have been taken with the use of quite a few filters?

There's a similar photo in a photography book I have, taken with a 35mm film SLR with an exposure of 30 minutes at f/2.8 but that was on a beach with no other lights about.

For a brighter background you could try the trick for combining photos that I've used for star trails on a digital camera. In Paint Shop Pro use Image Arithmetic in Lightest pixel mode (other programs have similar commands). That way the background and constant lights stay the same.

This is 12 x 5 minute exposures on a Nikon 5400: http://www.templeton.gen.nz/gallery2/v/ ... 7.jpg.html

ND filters, like stopping down too much, tend to make the thin stepped leaders invisible - something else I learned during the storm in January :(

My understanding is you can leave the Camera shutter open to collect multiple strikes on the same Frame.
Best to have a lightning active storm, ie strikes every few seconds.
I'm hoping to try this when I'm stormchasing USA this May.

The picture wasn't enhanced or changed in any way it was taken in one single shot according to the website.
Certainly a beaut of that.

Its possible that is one exposure only- if there was a time lapse the cars on the ground would show up as streaks and the building lights whould show evidence of smudging.

I'm more of the opinion that this has been doctored with photoshop where anything is possible.
Pictures lie often these days....

I was actually emailed from the provider of the photo who said it was actually two shots put together but within 30 seconds.
I forgot to post that  .
