70.2mm at Grey Lynn overnight. Wettest hour was between 3 and 4am when 18.2mm fell! The noise of the rain on the roof woke me a few times.

Currently Moderate rain, temp 18C dp17C.

Just over 70mm overnight here - if we get a bit more rain it will have been the most rain since ex-TC Ivy in Feb 2004

Hmm, the sandbags are already over the upstream doorway and closeby the two downstream doorways. Are you implying they should be in place?

At least I'm not in Darwin! ;)

Insanely heavy rain early this morning 3am(woke me up). Not so windy though. Thunderstorms...huh :x Thanks Met Service.
I'm guessing the creek in our back yard would have risen a couple of meters over its banks.(too lazy to go out side and try to see in the dark) :P . Sunny and steamy now.

Severe flooding closes road on Auckland's North Shore
Posted at 10:33am on 25 Apr 2006

Severe flooding from heavy rain has closed a road on Auckland's North Shore.

The Police say drains are blocked on Link Drive, and the road will remain closed this morning.

They say calls reporting flooding have come in from all over the city, including Remuera and the North Shore.

They say while the flooding generally is not serious, it is hampering the ability of drivers to get around the city.

The Fire Service has also had to pump out several basements across the city.

..Then why name the title severe?? #-o

the graph only shows 6cm
which sounds right
that 24 hour total is not correct (seems to be double)

se·vere (s-vîr)
adj. se·ver·er, se·ver·est
1. Unsparing, harsh, or strict, as in treatment of others: a severe critic.
2. Marked by or requiring strict adherence to rigorous standards or high principles: a severe code of behavior.
3. Stern or forbidding, as in manner or appearance: spoke in a severe voice.
4. Extremely plain in substance or style: a severe black dress.
5. Causing great discomfort, damage, or distress: a severe pain; a severe storm.
6. Very dangerous or harmful; grave or grievous: severe mental illness.
7. Extremely difficult to perform or endure; trying: a severe test of our loyalty.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep, i'm with you, I think severe means life-threatening! But when you consider some people think racing cars at a track that was there BEFORE they shifted in is too noisy......

It's just that the article content contradicts the title. Must be an Aucklander's idea of severe flooding then ;)

Light rain here in the Mackenzie, but heavier over the Divide, which should be good for lake levels. Probably a little snow up higher too.

I quite like that... "police close road with blocked drains"... UNBLOCK them then!!! It's not rocket science! Obviously the Auckland City Council drain unblockers have today off!

Yes - just to confirm we here in Auckland are suffering severe flooding. So bad in fact I had to take my Nike trainers off and put some heavy duty jandals on to get this hard won image of the severe flooding in Auckland...

To be fair though - Link Drive is the drainage area of the Wairau valley. For those outside of Auckland - there are massive roadside drains (you can kayak in them) that drain a large urban / industrial area.

Hmm, Matata has flooding & slips... Yet again! SH2 may be at risk of closing again. Apparently there is a waterfall where they have never observed a waterfall before.

The event seems almost over here. the light drizzle we've had the last couple of hours has almost stopped now.

No need to use a passing helicopter - there is one in the semi-detached hanger, though we are undecided where to go - to the batch at Paihia, or the the batch on Waihiki?

Not a problem - we don't drink caffeene either - it's warm milk fluffies with marshmellows.

I think I enjoy the life of an Aucklander!
