Afternoon Convective Showers -
Looks like we will be getting a few afternoon convective showers on the plains and foothills this week. I see Metservice are going with a thunderstorms forecast on the Wednesday. Also heavy showers possible on tuesday.
Will be interesting to see if these storms pull thru!

I am surprised i couldn't see anything bubbling up inland yesterday and today it's been warm enough although i think because the NE wind is a little lighter as apposed to being fresh because it often reaches inland then.Well it rushes towards inland because of the heat.
But tomorrow and Wednesday should see some nice showers going up and maybe a thunderstorm there.
Cheers
Jason.

Todays sounding has a warm nose at 600mb which amounts to a very strong cap. That warm layer will have to erode away entirely for deeper convection to occur. And dewponits a couple of degrees higher, say 18C or 19C would help make a difference, as would sunny skies. Currently 8/8. Still, a few showers will develop under tha cap this afternoon.

Didn't really notice the humidty but was warm while wading through the Travis Wetland up to waste high in mud all day
.
I think the moisture you are referring to would be smoke, haze from the bushfires in Australia I think someone in the NI pointed that out the other day.
Looks interesting from MS point of veiw thunderwise tomorrow might not be too bad actually could pull off nicly inland and then the risk of them spreading eastwards but time will tell.
Cheers
Jason.

Yes Jason, looks to be a real risk there today of thunderstorms/hail developing ahead of the front over North Otago/Canterbury. Thats based on the low level NE flow and dewpoints around 15-16C. Storms will drift eastward. As for the North Island, the dps are marginal but looks to be some potential for thunderstorms in the ranges from Waikato to Gisborne.

Thunderstorm
Looking forward to a good one.
Some interesting dark clouds were forming around Albany yesterday morning (21th) but nothing really happened.
Beautifull sunset though last night over the Waitakere ranges.
