These cyclones/storm systems produce big swells to exposed coasts and this last one seems to be created some really big ones to the northeast of the NI. Kinda like the effect of very cold southerly outbreaks in winter to bring snow to places that don't normally get it, the surf-sized waves produced by these storms push onto beaches that one normally can't surf (unless one's a midget

). I'm thinking of beaches like those of Auckland's North Shore. Any webcams for these beaches?
BTW probably the most extreme example of this in recent times in NZ would've been Cyclone Drena, with heavy ocean sized waves pushing right up the Firth of Thames - doing quite alot of damage to Thames township. Similar big waves pushed into Tasman Bay, pounding the coastline west of Nelson, where there's normally no surf at all.
