Low in Tasman after BOP flooding Low

Unread post by Michael »

This low is it going to "punch" through the narrow ridge and extend to the BOP flooding Low? The wind is fresh SW and the wind shouldve died with cirus etc from the new low by now :?:

Low in the central Tasman still looks quite active this morning and will bring the risk of heavy rain to Northern parts later tomorrow.

A fine, sunny and mild day here . :D

Yes, some unstable air in that low. Its catching a bit of moisture out there in the north Tasman, hence the active looking convection. But as it moves onto northern NZ it will run into drier air, hence I don't expect much from this low. :(

yeah, the first cloud sheet is just high cloud...no bottom to it...by the looks
there is no real rain on the rain radar...out to the west
the 2nd cloud sheet, the actual front, is more active.....
northland will get rain, and top of the coromendal
i dont think the auckland area will get too much...

The low that was supposed to have crossed the north of NZ today has come from off the NSW coast - where it has been responsible for an icy blast in SE Australia, bringing gales and heavy snow to the high country there. I don't know whether cold air associated with that storm would still be present by the time the system has reached the North Island (no more supply of cold air from high latitudes?), but there was a snowfall advisory for the Desert Road this morning.

Michael, take another look at the prognosis charts. There's a big JAFA on the way (Just Another Fine Anticyclone). Auckland will yet again enjoy another extended period of sunny weather this winter. \:D/

Actually, this coming weekend looks perfect for skiing on Ruapehu, apart from the crowds. :?
