Re: Recent forum "hiccups"
I think it's the MySQL database taking a hammering when searches are being performed. I've switched the search index settings to one that is less resource-hungry on the database tables.
If you still are experiencing these problems please report them here. Thanks.

I note that "Off Topic" is no longer accessible by unregistered users. (i.e. prompts you to login when you try to access that part of the forum.) I haven't seen an announcement advising a change, so wonder if it's one of the glitches like those reported in this thread.

Re: Recent forum "hiccups"
Hi DT, yes you sure can -- Just head to the user control panel and change your style to subsilver2 which is largely text based: http://www.weatherforum.org.nz/phpBB3/ucp.php?i=165DT-NZ wrote:Hi Foggy,
have noted that site is loading quicker now, great work, one bit there it was running slow and taking ages for pages to load to my browser. Also the banner will make the website load slower on user's browser's, though, one is able to disable this function and view the site in text only, suited more to those who have a slower connection &c.
Just a minor change I did there, to prevent spammers like Tim says and also I didn't think it was kinda right that 'just anybody' could lurk there so have restricted the access there.Wildland wrote:I note that "Off Topic" is no longer accessible by unregistered users. Re: Forum Talk
I've found recently that is has been going very slow again (not constant problem but there are periods of sluggishness) - loading a page takes ages.

I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary...(apart from when flatties are downloading their atrocious home and away episodesDavid wrote:I've found recently that is has been going very slow again (not constant problem but there are periods of sluggishness) - loading a page takes ages.

That way we can isolate it to see if the MySQL server is running slow or if it's a problem with congestion with your ISP.

It's a bit slow for me again this morning, I loaded this page then looked at the time down the bottom like you asked, said 1.577s. The post reply page has 1.501s.Foggy wrote:I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary...(apart from when flatties are downloading their atrocious home and away episodesDavid wrote:I've found recently that is has been going very slow again (not constant problem but there are periods of sluggishness) - loading a page takes ages.) when it is sluggish, what does the time say at the bottom of the page?

Edit, Just to let you know, on the page straight after one has posted it said about 9.7s

Re: Forum Talk
I recall a topic where members were asked to ensure they put their general location into their profile. Yet I can't find it. Is this something that can be made more obvious or better still a joining requirement on the form?

It's now a joining requirement on signup. I will PM that person kindly to update his location entry.

Go to Control panel then user control panel from the top menu at the top of the page then profile, then location is on that page.tgsnoopy wrote:I recall a topic where members were asked to ensure they put their general location into their profile.
