The forum wouldn't load for me just before using Firefox. Came back a while later and the time at the bottom of the index page was 29 seconds. So gave up trying to get any further through the forum. Tried Safari and it is going at a normal speed....very odd.
edit: just a few mins later it is going fast in Firefox...

The servers are particularly slow at times. I don't think it's your browser.

If the problem becomes a major issue I'll take it up with the hosts.

Maybe it's NZ, but I think this is the slowest forum I've encountered for quite some time. But I'm only one voice, how say the other members?

The Database transfer will be a nightmare for Foggy, if the host will be switching.
Hopefully the Database is not custom built, if the database is MySQL you will have no probs with importing to a new 1.

Ick, I remember running comparisons between the Telephone Exchanges Subscriber Office Data dumps and the Integrated Customer Management System database to check people had the services they were paying for and other similar tasks. You can have that job. Boring. We used to import them into some long forgotten database program to do it (Dataflex?).

I've cleared the overhead on the tables so hopefully this solves the problem! I did notice it was particularly slow this morning.

Mozilla Firefox was grizzling this morning as it was so slow.
It doesn't seem to be getting any better unfortunately.

If you don't mind me asking how do you host this forum, is it a personal server of yourself or a member or do you use a 3rd party?
I run the WA Weather group forum but a member kindly donates server space (and time) to host the site, works fine for us (99.9% of the time) but we do seem to have a bit less traffic than you so would be interested to see how yours is set up.

Always have been using a third party, collocated.
Just only recently have we been having problems with the database at times.

Ahh cheers Foggy, thought you guys must be as it is a fast server, most of the time.
Although saying that I haven't noticed much problems with time for the pages to load, though that may be because I usually access it when most of NZ is catching some Zzzzs.
