So the fine weather continues  colder starts but late teen to early 20 maximums _b .
I was looking west yesterday towards the Alps and thought this must be the first time in ages that there hasnt been any snow on them hills at this time of the year.
Normally by now we would have had a few good cold snaps come up bringing snow to low levels, but this warm dry weather just wont budge.
However with the entrance of this low system early week coming for the country might signal the start to a colder W-SW flow.
It looks like from around the 15th and into the weekend a cold unstable flow becomes established over the South Island which could well bring snow to low levels especailly in the far south.

Nothing on the mountains around here yet had a few light snowfalls above 2000m in march but nothing decent yet.

High cloud come in too early for warm temps here, got close to 20, now 18.5 with a gusty NW wind.

Looking cold towards the end of next week. Harder frosts will be on the cards if we get some snow on the hills and clear nights.

We've had clear nights since the AA, becoming more brighter since then but then no more AA.
It would be observed in many inland areas as well as Tekapo, I would imagine.

ECMWF shows a period of rain tues/wed and dry north of waikato right to the end of the run now.Honestly we hardly had much precipitation since about october as far as "all day rain" is concerned here.

Except for Fiordland, there hasn't been much rain, anywhere lately.

Why is it that on Mikes Rangiora Weather it says that it reached a high of 28.3 at 2.05pm and that also melja recons it was 26.2 but only 24C was reported to have been NZ's high on TV1,i thought MS had a recording station in Rangiora. :-k

Good point since Rangiora is where NZ's maximum temperature belongs to.
I think Rangiora's temperatures have been discussed somewhere else on this forum?

The sun was rather warm in Kaiapoi around 5pm with little to no wind, no NWer though but you could tell it was NW inland.
Looks like an interesting week ahead warm start and a cold finish, classic thunder and hail set up late Thursday afternoon/evening for Canterbury _b .
I also seen MS are predicting 300-400mm of rain for the Fiordland area up until late Tuesday night, thats alot of rain  .

This was discussed several weeks ago.

Mikes Rangiora Weather usually reads much higher than any other WS in the area, so I would tend to discount it. This seemingly more reliable Rangiora township PWS had around 21C at about 2pm yesterday and a high of 24.8C at about 6pm, while this (perhaps less reliable) Rangiora Airfield PWS, about 5 km WNW of the town, had around 23C at about 2pm and a high of 25.7C about 4:30pm.

I'm not sure that MetService have a site in Rangiora, but there's a NIWA station on the SSW outskirts of the township; don't have data yet, but I'd be surprised if it was more than 25C yesterday.

Thanks Nev,Mikes Rangiora Weather is now deleted from my links,i'm now wondering if the temperature gauge/clock in the main street uses Mikes Rangiora Weather readings as it often shows some ridiculous temps at times

Lovely day here. Already up to 24 degrees with some scrappy thin high cloud but plenty of sunshine and a light ENE breeze at the moment.

The one in the main street has a sensor but all the black road in the area makes this a **** station when the sun is out _b .
I use this one http://www.dwight.co.nz/ it is a good davis vantage pro station and it seems about only a deg out from mine most of the time.
I can tell you that it was much much hotter than it was in chch on sunday.
